Considered by many as the best British film ever made, we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the release of The Third Man with a brand new exclusive content and a screening of the film. Audiences will be treated to a pre-screening musical performance from Cornelia Mayer, a Viennese zither player, including insights into the genesis of the score and anecdotes about its composer Anton Karas, and a post-screening QA hosted by film critic and author Matthew Sweet featuring Angela Allen, one of the last remaining Third Man crew members, and fan of the film writer/director Hossein Amini (McMafia, Drive, The Wings of a Dove)Directed by Carol Reed (THE FALLEN IDOL, OLIVER!) from an original script by acclaimed novelist Graham Greene, THE THIRD MAN won the Grand Prix at Cannes and the BAFTA for Best British film, and is loved by filmmakers the world over, from Martin Scorsese to Ben Wheatley. Oscar-winning cinematography showcasing the shadowy underbelly of a bombed-out Vienna, an endlessly quotable performance by Orson Welles, and an iconic soundtrack from zither player Anton Karas (a Viennese busker plucked from obscurity by Reed) all combine to make one of the most memorable thrillers of all time.Synopsis:Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten), a writer of pulp westerns, arrives in post-war Vienna on the invitation of his childhood friend Harry Lime. But on arrival he finds that Harry has recently been killed by a car while crossing the street, leaving a grief-stricken lover, Anna (Alida Valli). When local British investigating office Calloway (Trevor Howard) claims that Lime was an unsavoury criminal, Martins accepts an offer from a local book club to stay in Vienna in order to clear his friends name. As he investigates his friends last hours, he grows closer to the doomed Anna, and learns of an unidentified third man at the scene of the accident, who may hold the key to the deepening mystery surrounding Harrys death.Director: Carol ReedCast: Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Trevor HowardRun time: 2 hours 44 minsPre-recorded Intro Performance - 30minsThe Third Man - 1hr 44minsPre-recorded film discussion - 30mins
