Bizarre musical fantasy about a king (Marais) who promises his dying wife (Deneuve) he will only re-marry someone more beautiful than her. But when he settles on his own daughter (also Deneuve), the fairy godmother descends and whisks the girl away, hiding her in a forest cottage and cloaking her in animal hide.
