Following the more recent Bier trend this film revolves around the fallout from a tragic and unexpected accident. At the outset we are introduced by Audrey (Berry) to the man she blames for her husband's recent death, former lawyer now junkie Jerry Sunbourne (Benicio Del Toro). The rotten dynamic between the protagonists is revealed in a successful series of hazy melancholic flashbacks. With the husband's death, however, screenwriter Allan Loeb begins to unravel a much more conventional story of Jerry's battle with drugs and the audience is forced to wallow in an all too familiar mire.
