Shirley Josephine Decker | USA | 2020 | 106m | 15 Renowned horror writer Shirley Jackson (Elisabeth Moss) is on the precipice of writing her masterpiece when the arrival of newlyweds upends her meticulous routine and heightens tensions in her already tempestuous relationship with her philandering husband. The middle-aged couple, prone to ruthless barbs and copious afternoon cocktails, begins to toy mercilessly with the nave young couple at their door. With the men increasingly absent, Shirley and Rose develop a relationship that blurs boundaries and allows both to challenge the stuffy patriarchal atmosphere of 1950s America. "Elisabeth Moss's magnificence will loosen the screws in your head" - Charlotte O'Sullivan, Evening Standard
