In the 1930s and 40s Lomax travelled through the Mississippi Delta collecting sound recordings of the psalms of black American labourers. Returning in the 70s with filmmaker Bishop, the pair documented 'The Land Where the Blues Began', a stirring ensemble of yarns and performances from the likes of JT Tucker, Belton Sutherland, Clyde Maxwell and Jack Owens.
