Directly confronting the conditions of workers in the city, Malian director Cissé chronicles a young man who has left the countryside to work in a textiles factory. Striking up a friendship with the factory's manager, the protagonist witnesses the struggle he faces to both once satisfy the needs of the factory's owner, and the much-abused workers he oversees.
