Louisa May Alcott's autobiograhical account of four virtuous sisters growing up in the absence of their father during the Civil War has been given the film treatment many a time. This particular effort stars June Allyson as tomboy Jo, Elizabeth Taylor as the vain Amy, Janet Leigh as practical Meg and Margaret O'Brien as the frail Beth and is filled with syrupy sentiment and petticoats aplenty.
