Powerful documentary revolving around Jerusalem’s only gay bar and the patrons who brave tradition, religion and conflict to be who they are.
A powerful and inspiring documentary about gays and lesbians in Jerusalem. Focusing on the stories of five individuals, City of Borders revolves around the city's only gay bar, Shushan, a place that seems to be the most integrated and peaceful in the whole of the Middle East.
We meet the bar's owner, who is the city's first openly gay councilman; a young gay soldier who was stabbed in the 2005 Pride parade; a Palestinian man who regularly risks his life to get to Shushan to perform in drag; and an Arab-Jewish lesbian couple who challenge their friends and family with their taboo-breaking relationship.
Yun Suh presents a warm and thoughtful picture of everyday heroes who brave tradition, religion and conflict in order to be who they are and be with the ones they love.
