Julia’s Delusion is a highly personal documentary film. Hannes Schönemann reconstructs a love story from his past, which began in summer 1969 and involved the young Danish Communist, Julia Szabad. The relationship is overshadowed by the activities of the secret police and by social unrest. The director presents his own personal history, while using interviews and historical footage – some of which was produced illegally – to reflect on the GDR and its mechanisms of power. We are delighted that director Hannes Schönemann will introduce the screening. Part of Glasgow Film Festival
