The first part of Pasolini's 'Trilogy of Life' is based on eight lively tales by 14th century Italian writer Boccaccio. Pasolini's vision of Boccaccio becomes an extraordinary medieval landscape inhabited by magicians, priests and artists and featuring much naked romping. 'The Canterbury Tales' and 'The Arabian Nights' conclude the trilogy.
