One of the more satisfactory screen adaptations of Tennessee Williams' work has Burton as the unfrocked, alcoholic priest who finds work as a bus-tour guide in Mexico and becomes involved with both spinster-poetess Kerr and earthy hotel-owner Gardner. Particularly fine performances all round and a satisfying balance between pathos and comedy.
