- Directed by: Wim Wenders
- Cast: Frederic Forrest, Roy Kinnear.
Wenders' first American movie, a speculative tale about crime writer Dashiell Hammett's involvement in a case he might easily have written himself. The movie was plagued by production difficulties and the result is a bit of a narrative shambles. What remains is the outline of a smart idea, and a wonderfully evocative studio recreation of 1940s Chinatown.
