Perfect film of Robert Bolt's play about Thomas More's conflict with Henry VIII. The King, requiring a divorce, asks for More's support in breaking with Rome and forming the Church of England. Superb performances and vivid atmosphere make this a worthy Oscar-winner for Zinnemann, Bolt and Scofield, though Shaw's Henry and Welles' Cardinal Wolsey are equally memorable.
