Niall MacCormick’s well-pitched and beautifully written film about frustrated author Jonathan (Koch) and the incendiary effect on his family of the arrival of the ebullilent Emilia (Brown-Findlay), herself a would-be writer. Emilia first befriends and emancipates the bookish daughter Beth (Jones), alarms her career frustrated mother (Ormond), before bewitching Jonathan himself. The script and the journey of Emilia will inspire any young writer, and a heavy hitting supporting cast make this one of the important British films of the year.
