The Institut Francais d'Ecosse in Edinburgh's West End exists to promote French culture and language within Scotland. This is done through a variety of language courses, hosted events such as film screenings, concerts, talks, exhibitions and theatre, and initiatives such as the French drama competition for primary schools.
The Institute also hosts a French media library with a large and varied collection of novels, documentaries, comics, children books, DVDs, CDs… open to the public free of charge. In 2012, the Bistrot de l'Institut will also reopen its doors permanently to the public.
