Twenty-year-old Catholic virgin and theology student Céline (Sokolowski) is so excessively pious that her mother superior dismisses her from the convent; she then encounters a volatile Muslim teenager (Salime) and his fundamentalist brother (Sarafidis). Dumont's elliptical, typically uncompromising drama patiently builds to a climactic act of rain-drenched salvation.
