If only one of this tiresomely protracted franchise deserves preservation, it's this one: a cheerful spoof of stiff-upper-lipped war epics such as Zulu, with the smut and the wit for once in perfect balance. ('I've never ridden in a cart pulled by cows before.' 'Bullocks, Mr Belcher.' 'No, I haven't, honestly.') Imperialism has never looked so idiotic.
