Bob (D'Onofrio), a cab driver, picks up a mother (Ormond) and her son Tim (Bird), and then kills the mother and raises the son as his domestic slave. Lynch draws a compelling turn from D'Onofrio, and Farren does good work as the grown-up son, but the film flounders in its last act.
