Giuseppe Verdi
Libretto by Temistocle Solera
Sung in Italian

The opera of Va’ pensiero brought Verdi, not yet thirty, an international success which stretched from Europe to America.

The protagonist Leo Nucci guides a company of singers that is necessarily hardened, given the subject at hand.

It is a choral opera of biblical majesty, in which the threatening Babylonian emperor stalks through a world of contrasts, starting with that of the Jewish people whom he has subjugated. The incisive and inventive slant of the music gives life to interwoven events served with a generous helping of pride, resentment, superstition and the spirit of conversion.
