Johnnie Gray (Keaton) is a Georgia train engineer who gets caught up in the American Civil War. Keaton's 1926 masterpiece performed so poorly on its release that it helped kill his career as an independent filmmaker, but it's now rightly viewed as one of the greatest of silent comedies and a heroic achievement, blending subtle visual gags with epic camerawork and including an unforgettable train crash sequence.
