There is a strong echo of War of the Worlds in the second of the big screen Doctor Who adventures starring Peter Cushing. Based on a television episode, it finds the Doctor and his companions travelling into the future where London is in ruins after the diabolical Daleks have staged an invasion of planet Earth. The Doctor aids the plucky human survivors as they rally to fight back. Bernard Cribbins co-stars as policeman Tom, returning years later as Donna’s grandfather during David Tennant’s tenure as the Doctor. Restored in readiness for a Blu-ray re-release this spring, the film is good family fun for nostalgic adults and Who fans of all ages.
