Radim Spacek’s cerebral political thriller about the relations between the secret police and the dissident movement in 1980s communist Czechoslovakia focuses on Ondrej Maly’s awkward, bitter Antonín, a brutal secret police lieutenant. No longer finding satisfaction in the violent nature of his work , Antonín becomes obsessed with the pretty ginger mistress (Kristína Farkasová) of the married dissident he’s monitoring. Seething with repressed anger, in an attempt to claim her as his prize the jaded lieutenant rebels against the status quo with devastating consequences.
