James Cagney’s last major film role is a corker. His performance is a master class of comic timing, dynamism and gold-plated movie star charisma. Billy Wilder’s riotous Cold War farce is set in a divided Berlin where Cagney is a fast-talking Coca Cola executive juggling work, marriage and extra-curricular activities. Then, his boss asks him to keep an eye on his apple pie American daughter during her visit. The girl falls for a boy, a boy who happens to be a mule-headed, obnoxious Communist. As everything spins out of control it is master manipulator Cagney who wheels and deals to snatch triumph from the jaws of disaster.
