Hailed as a ‘feverish, erotic manifesto’, Rat Fever is the latest work from award-winning agent provocateur Cláudio Assis. Filmed in his native Recife, the ‘Venice of Brazil’, it is a tale of unrequited love filmed in gorgeous black and white. Zizo is an idealistic anarchist, fighting the system with his poetry, street performances and self-published newsletter Febre do Rato. Then he meets the beautiful, conventional Eneida and is instantly smitten. She is happy to be his muse but that is as far as she will go – a huge challenge to a man who believes in living for the moment, drinking his fill and taking his pleasure where he can find it.
