A playful and poetic visit to a Chinese ghost town.

Yumen is an abandoned oil town in the Northwestern province of Gansu in China. The filmmakers roam the ruins of the town in a film that transcends documentary by incorporating elements of performance and narrative. The lush colours and rich textures of 16mm evoke the illusion of a lost paradise. A brilliant excavation of China’s past and a trenchant examination of its present.
