Val (Pacino) is an ex-con who meets up with old friends Doc (Walken) and Hirsch (Arkin) for one last job – but Doc has reluctantly agreed to kill him. Stevens is less concerned with story than with knockabout badinage, and although the dialogue is weak and the plot predictable, it just about delivers.
