- 2h 12min
- Directed by: Lee Daniels
- Cast: Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack
- UK release: 15 November 2013
Loosely based on a true story, Daniels' ritzy crash-course in US history follows Cecil Gaines (Whitaker), who rises from impoverished cottonfield worker to butler at the White House. It's pure Hollywood moonshine, but the stunt casting (Cusack as Nixon, Rickman as Reagan) sweetens the parallel story of Gaines' rebellious son (Banner). Ponderous, but undeniably entertaining.
