Riggan Thompson (Keaton) played Birdman, a popular Hollywood superhero, but that was a while ago and he's having trouble getting the second art of his career started. A stellar cast (Norton, Watts, Stone) and fluid script prop up an award-worthy turn from Keaton, all mesmerisingly photographed by Lubezki. Highly imaginative.
This film is not currently showing in cinemas.
Oscar winner for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
Michael Keaton plays a washed-up superhero actor in this breathtakingly original showbiz satire. Not so long ago, Riggan Thomson was flying high as the star of the Birdman superhero movie trilogy. But now he's desperate to gain some credibility with a make-or-break stage adaptation of a Raymond Carver short story. It's produced by his long-suffering friend Jake. Among the cast are his girlfriend Laura, film star Lesley and insufferably egotistical method actor Mike Shiner. To add to Riggan's woes, he's hired his embittered, recovering addict daughter Sam as an assistant. As things go from bad to worse, he's even mocked by Birdman himself!
Former Batman star Michael Keaton gives a vanity-free, self-referential performance in 'Babel' and 'Biutiful' director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's pitch black comedy of desperation. Brilliant cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki makes it appear as though the film is one continuous shot.
