General Glen McMahon (Pitt as a character based on real-life General Stanley McChrystal) is put in charge of leading US forces in Afghanistan, where he thinks he can fix the unfixable. A sometimes sophisticated critique of US warmongering is badly undermined by Pitt’s mannered performance, part Popeye, part Aldo Raine from Inglourious Basterds.
