The Owners (Ukkylikamshat)
This film is not currently showing in cinemas.
A humble country house is the object of violent struggle in a lawless land.
After their mother's death, three siblings – an ex-convict, an aspiring actor, and their younger sister – come from the city to a benighted region of rural Kazakhstan to claim the house they have inherited. They meet with violent opposition from a former tenant of the house and his gang. The cheerfully corrupt local police and the indifferent government authorities are of no help. Deadpan tragicomic absurdism in Rembrandt light from Adilkhan Yerzhanov (Constructors, EIFF 2013), an insightful chronicler of post-Soviet reality.
