Germany 1912: when factory owner Karl (Rickman) hires handsome Freidrich (Madden) to tutor his son, a slow-burning liaison begins between Friedrich and Karl's beautiful wife Lotte (Hall). Based on a Stefan Zweig novel, it's a tasteful and inoffensive Euro-pudding, unworthy of its talented cast and otherwise fine director.
