Patricia (Garner) is the suffocatingly protective mother of Brandy (Dever), who is attracted to disillusioned jock Tim (Elgort); meanwhile, Don (Sandler, gently understated) and Helen (DeWitt) are neglecting their porn-addicted son Chris (Tope). Reitman's finger-wagging melodrama is intent on teaching us lessons, but it's still better than his schmaltzy Labor Day.
