Connor (Crowe) is an embittered Australian farmer after WW I who, following the suicide of wife Eliza (McKenzie), goes to Turkey in the hope of finding the bodies of his dead sons. Crowe as director fashions a sombre, intelligent and surprisingly assured historical drama, with fine performances.

Russell Crowe directs and stars in this film about a father coming to terms with the death of his three sons in the battle of Gallipoli. In order to make sense of his grief he undertakes the journey from Australia to Turkey, attempting to find the bodies of his sons in order to bury them properly. What follows is an epic tale about the lengths a parent will go to for their children, and the ongoing legacy of war. A stand-out performance from Crowe, and beautiful visuals and cinematography make this film a visual and emotional treat.
