Max (Sandler) is a shoe-mender in New York who discovers a magic sewing machine that enables him to look exactly like the owner of any shoe that he repairs with it. Quaint urban fable with an uneven structure, trying and failing to mesh Sandler's simplistic comic schtick with writer/director McCarthy's sense of moral complication.
