Auschwitz, 1944: prisoner Saul (Röhrig) is a member of the Sonderkommando, tasked with disposing of corpses after mass executions, who becomes determined to give a proper burial to a body he believes to be that of his son. Sensitive and non-judgemental but also intense and challenging (it won the Grand Prix at Cannes.)
