Una (Mara) was sexually assaulted by neighbour Ray (Mendelsohn) when she was 13; 15 years later she tracks him to his workplace, where they have unfinished business. This screen version of David Harrower’s play Blackbird has intense and committed performances but can neither conceal its theatrical roots nor entirely resolve the troubling issues it raises.
