- Cast: Marion Cotillard, Louis Garrel, Alex Brendemühl
Adapted from Milena Agus’s novel, this romance is the story of Gabrielle (Cotillard), a young woman married off by her parents who meets a dashing injured veteran of the Indochinese War (Garrel). The one-dimensional screenplay gives the cast nothing of substance to work with and, for a film supposedly about one woman's singular determination to pursue her desires, it is a neutered and coy affair.
