Mathilde (de Laâge) is a French Red Cross medic in Poland in 1945, who has to care for a group of nuns and novices who have become pregnant after being raped by Russian soldiers. An appalling plight is presented with sensitivity and restraint, and Buzek is poignant as the compassionate and relatively wordly Sister Maria.
