Manchester, 1976: Steven Patrick Morrissey (Jack Lowden) impatiently waits for his genius to be uncovered. Lowden shows some stage presence but this unauthorised biopic of the Smiths frontman has little to say and features none of the band's iconic music.

England is Mine

England Is Mine takes audiences back to 1970s Manchester, where Steven Morrissey (Jack Lowden – Dunkirk, A United Kingdom), an introverted, uncompromising teenager, finds himself frustrated with his working-class existence.

With dreams of a successful music career being dampened by his run-of-the-mill job at the local tax office, Steven finds solace in the city’s underground gig scene where he meets Linder Sterling (Jessica Brown Findley - Downton Abbey), an intelligent, self-assured artist – who encourages him to make his ideas of superstardom a reality.

It's awkward being a Morrissey fan. It's even more awkward to be a Morrissey fan with a couple of very visible tattoos related to the singer. People are inclined to greet you with the phrase: 'What's that say? Morrissey? Aw, he's a c**t.' As far as…
