BABY is a dance theatre performance inspired by the choreographer’s experience of the birth of her son, Dylan in August 2015 and tells the story of that birth. The show contains personal material from the artist’s life in both the soundtrack and projection. The show is both tender and comic. It focuses on the relationships between women of different generations in the birth and bringing up of Baby.
The show’s final scene is made up of dancing mums and babies to celebrate being a parent.
The show draws upon a mixture of dance styles; a music box ballerina opens and closes the show, the pregnant street dancing mother in a onesie appears throughout, we see glimpses of the choreographer’s physical theatre background through a intricate choreography to Frankie Vallie’s I love You, Baby and Elvis’ Love Me Tender and finally the piece would not be complete without the dad dancing of Jey Jeyakumar with his Teddy bear.
“inventive, purposeful capsule of comedic dance theatre…..Brace sticks to her theme with an engaging tenacity (and a sizeable dollop of cuteness)”
“Never has so much applause been showered on so many babies for such a brief appearance.”
“…a homage of jewellery box ballerinas, giant teddies and disco dancing to her new born son. Featuring music by Elvis Presley, Frankie Vallie and Sean Paul, Brace explores themes of pregnancy, motherhood and love. The work ended on a high, as a group of Mothers and their young babies join the trio of dancers onstage for a last dance.”
