In Victorian London, Scotland Yard detective John Kildare becomes embroiled with music hall performer Lizzie Cree (Olivia Cooke). This adaptation by Jane Goldman of Peter Ackroyd’s 1994 novel never quite finds its rhythm, and although Cooke and Nighy are good, it promises more than it delivers.
