Based on journalist Jeanette Walls’ best-selling 2005 memoir, The Glass Castle deals with the complex traumas of substance abuse and childhood neglect, and explores the lasting impacts of fractured relationships between parents and children. Growing up in a series of squats with her eccentric mother and unstable, alcoholic father, Walls lived a nomadic childhood where her parents used imagination to distract from their crippling poverty. Walls reflects on the effects of her dysfunctional childhood and subsequent establishment of successful life for herself on her own terms in New York City, in a story told across 3 life-stages.
