Competitive skier Molly Bloom (Chastain) turns to running professional poker games after suffering a career-ending sports injury. Sorkin’s directorial debut features much of his crisp dialogue which Chastain and Elba manage to make sound natural; shame about the script’s dispiriting preoccupation with Molly’s daddy issues.

Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led people to believe.
