Ahead of Record Store Day on 20 April, we’re presenting this intimate portrait of one of the UK music scene’s most influential DJs and record label owners.
James Lavelle played his first DJ set at fourteen, launched pioneering record label Mo’Wax at eighteen and released the genre-defining UNKLE album Psyence Fiction at twenty-two. His phenomenally rapid rise seemed limitless, but it’s only when you’re going so fast that the wheels fall off.
Unearthed from over 700 hours of footage and featuring DJ Shadow, 3D of Massive Attack, Grandmaster Flash and more, this is a rare opportunity to watch a boy become a man in a world of music.
“A clear eyed portrait of a time and place in music that could never be repeated” Verge
