When Cameron (Moretz) is discovered being intimate with another girl in the back of her boyfriend’s car, she’s shipped off a Christian ‘conversion’ camp. The screenplay avoids cliché and treats all the characters with empathy, and Moretz’s subtle strength is balanced by Lane’s resigned sarcasm as a fellow inmate. Understated and powerful.
