Molly (T. Thompson) is a wannabe MIB agent who’s given a chance by Agent O (E. Thompson) and teamed up with golden boy Agent H (Hemsworth). It’s not so much that it’s bad, more that the franchise wasn’t much to begin with: here, a CGI-heavy story relies far too much on Hemsworth’s insouciant charm. A high-budget non-event.

  • UK release: 14 April 2017

Cyber-terrorist Cypher (Theron) pits rogue racer Dom (Diesel) against his fellow petrolheads, including wife Letty (Rodriguez). Baffling and inconsequential story aside, it’s all shamelessly about car-based action, and although human doorstop Diesel isn’t up to the story’s limited emotional demands, Johnson and Statham…

  • UK release: 28 August 2015

Biopic of rap group NWA, focusing on the recording of their debut album, their subsequent fallings-out and eventual disintegration. Mitchell is excellent as Eazy-E and despite some second-half problem, it's punchy, provocative and packed with attitude, worthy of comparison with the similarly themed Boyz n the Hood and 8…

  • Cast: Jamie Foxx, Gerard Butler, Bruce McGill, Colm Meaney, Leslie Bibb, Michael Irby, Regina Hall

Messily attempting to juggle crowd-pleasing retribution with cheap pot shots, this tale of one man's fight against the corrupt judiciary system and the ambitious attorney (Foxx) that set free his wife's murderer is undermined by a dubious morality and an unpleasant glorification of violence.

  • Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, Mos Def, Donald Sutherland

Wisely, the producers of this remake have junked almost everything but the heist theme, a couple of character names and the Minis. Theron plays one of these gorgeous safecrackers who only exist in films, and Wahlberg's scowl is used to good effect, for once. Only Norton, twirling his Dick Dastardly moustache without an…
